How You Communicate Matters

When it is time to communicate with your team, do you have a plan or do you just make it up as you go? A friend recently asked about this topic.

When you have something of importance or an announcement regarding your firm, make sure you have an equitable plan to rollout the announcement. You can text, email, post notices or share in person or via telephone. Just make sure you reach everyone that should know!

A friend’s experience with a company announcement was a disappointing one. Her management did not reach out to all of the impacted employees. She only found out about the appreciation event as she saw it afterwards on their private social media page. She wondered what went so wrong that she was not aware of this event or could it be she was purposely left out?

If you can text your employee or consultant team about work related questions when they are not working, you most assuredly can text them about an employee appreciation luncheon. To not do so, could have a very negative impact. Your team could feel unfairly targeted or feel left out. Not recognizing the impact of a poorly rolled out communication plan around even the simple aspects of your business could be damaging to your brand.

Next time you seek your team’s input or voluntary attendance or involvement, consider how you reach out to your team. Make sure you include everyone. Ensure you do not use back stairways to post the announcement and have a straightforward and inclusive rollout plan.

Group emails, group texts, operative word being ‘group’. Keep it simple, include everyone on your team, and do not rely on randomly posted signs where not all employees or consultants may venture.

Be well.
