Teaming Up
We have discussed partnering with other firms in the past. Another slightly different approach would be to team up with complementary firms to jointly market for new business.
Have you ever been on a job where you find synergy with another firm? This would not ordinarily be a competitor but a firm that provides a complementary service to yours. Where your product or service ends, theirs begins. Step back and consider some of your past jobs, clearly there were other players in the final completion. Could they be a path to more business for you?
Early on, we worked with a number of professional service providers in the effort to forge a path for a professional going out on their own. We had bankers, real estate agents, Insurance agents, architects, designers, a retired mentor, and local industrial development personnel engaged. We have since met separately with each of them to determine a joint path forward. Sometimes, you will find a door opens where you previously had not seen one. It is surprising what a conversation with colleagues can produce.
Recently, one of our clients was approached by a firm they had engaged on a job. The leaders of that firm had realized they truly enjoyed working with one another, the joint client had been very pleased with their work, and the outcome had been both an intellectual journey of success and a friendship forged along the way. It clearly begs the question, are there more opportunities out there for your firm like this? Our client believes so.
Take some time to review and assess some of your recent jobs. Identify a company or two that complemented your work., reach out to them, discuss what made your joint venture successful for the shares client, and suggest marketing to similar clients together. At times, a formula for success just presents itself. Make sure to know when that time is and seize it.
The journey of your business can take many paths. Be like our dogs in today’s blog feature, some may look similar, some may not, but know when an opportunity to team up should be explored! It may lead you to even greater succcess than you have enjoyed alone!
Be well.
