‘Tis the Season

Before 2008, corporations had lavish client parties and often sent large gift baskets as a holiday gift of thanks. The Financial Crisis effectively ended all of that. So, how best to celebrate your gratitude for the clients that have seen you through a most unconventional year?

One of the most popular ways for companies to celebrate the season is to donate funds to a charity and send cards to their clients advising that they did this instead of sending out gifts. This is always a caring and important gesture. The charities need it more than the client likely needs a fruit basket. This year, I have already seen many donating to Food Banks as they have needed donations in volumes like never before.

If you do prefer to send gifts to clients, keep in mind certain large companies either do not permit any gifts accepted by their employees or have dollar thresholds. $25 always seems to be a threshold in many government and publicly traded companies. If you send something of more value, they usually have to return it or share with their colleagues. That, of course, assumes they are in the same office together.

Sending local flowers, boxes of chocolate, or promotional items will help keep business in your community. There are many options within these categories that should help you stay within acceptable thresholds. And, let’s be honest, we all appreciate being acknowledged with a gift. Local wine shops working with smaller vineyards are a popular choice as well. In fact, one of my favorites! And, some very good wine comes at less than $20.

if gift giving is neither in your nature or your budget, a simple digital Holiday Card to your clients will always be favorably received. There are many online sites offering discounts as we near the last few weeks of the year. An email that neither requests anything nor is filled with excess information is always one to be enjoyed. A simple thank you for your business and well wishes for the Holiday Season and beyond should always be well received.

As you consider which path to follow, be like Marcie, our Bloodhound mix featured in today’s Blog, surprise your clients and pop out a card, small gift, or small promotional item. It should bring a smile to someone this holiday season!

Be well and enjoy the Celebrations of the Holiday Season!
