WHO are you?

Anyone who knows me knows I am enamored of Owls. Therefore, it is only befitting a new Owl Sculpture arrived for display in our office.

NYCTIMENE is a ‘familiar’ of Athena in Greek Mythology and Minerva in Roman Mythology. This owl represents this ‘familiar’. Her story is not a pleasant one, born as a princess and entrapped in a difficult life with her father, the King. The story goes that she flees to the forest and becomes an Owl and a familiar of Athena/Minerva. This allows her to live her life masked and comfortably away from the pain of her human life. While somewhat tragic, there is also peace in knowing she recreates herself and her life.

As business owners and leaders, we are always seeking a better ‘me’. One way to detail who you are is to have a descriptive section on your website and social media pages in the ‘About Us’ section. It really is the first place I go on a website or Business Facebook Page to better understand the company and its ownership. It is sometimes their only chance to make a first impression with me. So, it needs to be informative with clear information and photos, especially those with pets, which really make a good first impression with me!

There are pages where the About Us section is vague or even nonexistent. And that always makes a very negative first impression with me. Tell us something! List out why you started this organization, what you hope to accomplish, and in many ways, why I should choose to do business with you. Understanding that many people are not comfortable sharing all that is private and confidential, you do not need to delve into your private parts of your life to win me over at first glance.

As part of branding yourself, your organization, and your mission, give us some fun facts about why you are in business. If you prefer less information then Be Bright Be Brief Be Gone. Usually that approach gives the reader enough information to make an informed decision about the firm. Or be creative and explain who you are by masking under a ‘familiar’ whose traits bare a striking resemblance to you and your organization.

Be Bright, Be Brief, Be Well!
