Pivot
There is a dog sport referred to as dog dancing. It is set to music with the handler and the dog actually dancing. It is fascinating to watch, particularly as a person not gifted with the art of balance.
Your small business is a dance. Learning to balance throughout all the music you face over its life is a key talent. The word pivot seems to be prominent in my thoughts as I consider this topic. A product that was too early in its life years later may find a home among your clients, pivot. A service you chose not to focus on earlier has suddenly become the service of choice among your clients now, pivot. That challenging client that still wants to work with you years after you declined them, and your cash flow is not where it needs to be, pivot. Your focus has changed since you began the company, pivot. Pivot is a key term you should know well throughout the entire lifecyle of your business.
If you have never seen dog dancing, please search the internet and watch a quick video. Most of the dogs I have seen perform in this sport ore the Border Collies. They are often considered the most intelligent breed out there. So, it is no surprise that they are often chosen for this sport as they need to follow their handler in ways that are sometimes not a natural movement. But they listen and they watch and they react as taught. This is something we all can relate to, watching trends and interpreting your own industry changes. And then, Pivot.
I have often considered the word Pivot, a positive one. Many of us are not change addicts so the word Pivot should not be scary to us. It is a reminder to stay fresh, be aware of what your clients and industry are telling you and find a way to react positively to the change. Two simple words to keep your business relevant and going in a forward direction: Just Pivot.
Be well.
