Water in times of Crisis

If you have ever traveled to a dog sporting event, you know there is always a bag of supplies you need to bring and water is number one on that list!  It really is no different for your own field office, especially in case of a crisis.

Water, it is necessary for everything we do.  And this includes your office.  Ideally you are able to invest in a small dorm refrigerator and can stock it up with bottles of water.

There are also water bottle delivery options, just check with your landlord to see if there are companies already delivering water to your building.  We did this early on but the cost of the service did not warrant signing up for it.  We have a small dorm like refrigerator that holds about a dozen bottles of water at any given time.  And, trust me, we have used them.

Our building has had a few power outages over the years we have been there.  Most recently, on a very warm day when the area Power Grid went down. Having cold water to drink for the time the power was out was critical.  You might be surprised how warm space can get once air conditioning is not available.  Any longer and we would have likely just left.  But, that dozen of cold water bottles disappeared quickly!

If your space allows, a larger or full

size refrigerator might be on the shopping list.  We worry about power outages and stocking a large refrigerator so we have been considering a slightly larger one than the dorm size, under the counter, refrigerator we currently have.  If you have many employees, a full size one may make sense.  However, for the majority of solopreneurs or small business owners, a small to medium size refrigerator will be sufficient.

We do have a vending machine in our floor but more than you would expect, it is sold out.  So, do not rely on vending machines to keep you hydrated.

Dollar stores and economical grocery stores tend to have spring water for less than most major grocery stores.  I often stop and stock up on a bi-weekly basis. Just make sure you bring them to your office or home.  Bottles sitting in a hot garage or a hot car trunk are not ideal.

So, something as simple as having a twenty-four (24) pack of water on hand is really critical to the well-being of you, employees, or visitors in your space.  I have honestly been surprised how often I am grateful we have extras in the kitchenette we have.  An unexpected power outage, a vending machine sold out, the need to hydrate is paramount to any of these issues that may present themselves.

Serve up that bowl of water on your business field.  You’ll be relieved you thought ahead.  Keeping cool is not just about controlling your temperament in uncertain times!  It is about always having that cold bottle of water available to enjoy and keeping you battlefield ready!

Be well.
