Supporting Your Community

As a business owner, you are likely always on the lookout for ways others can support your business. It should be part of your networking strategy and marketing campaign. You can also raise your community profile by actively supporting community events in your area.

Recently, a high profile not for profit in our office neighborhood had a fundraising event. It was very casual and offered beer tasting. It was very well attended and the list of companies in our office complex that either attended or sponsored the event were impressive. These firms truly made a good impression to anyone who attended and saw their branding.

We cannot always attend every event and we cannot always sponsor every fundraiser but we can show up and show our support. You will be noticed and it may be a very cost effective way to market your name and brand in the local community. And depending on your interests you may find that certain fundraisers appeal more to you than others.

Galas, casual beer or wine tastings, auctions, the list can go on and on as people and organizations become more creative. Try to isolate the best events with the most impact for yourself and your brand. And do not be ashamed to wear your company logo. That fleece jacket, that baseball cap, that bag with your logo should accompany you. People then know who you are and should be impressed you are taking the time to support your local community not for profits. Wear your bar and proudly and enjoy yourself.

Being active and being seen are both important marketing elements. At a minimum, just show up.

Be well.
