3 Form - CPR for Your Business

As many readers and followers know, our business is based in Buffalo, NY. We also live in the City itself. And, as much of the country and beyond knows, it has been a reflective week, at best, for our sports team, the Buffalo Bills, and our entire community.

During Monday Night Football, one week ago today, the Bills Safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed on the field after a collision with another player. He suffered Cardiac Arrest and was resuscitated by the expert medical staff using CPR. A week later, we have all celebrated his amazing journey of recovery to date. Humanity has been sending light and love to him, his family, his fellow players, and the community beyond, without borders.

There are so many lessons and takeaways from this experience. The most important from the media covering it seems to be the importance of having CPR and a defibrillator readily available and the medical staff who recognized the immediacy and had the training and expertise to implement it.

This same approach can be applied to your personal well being and the well being of your business. We would like to suggest the term ‘3 Form’, which recognizes his Player Number, 3, and the number of letters in ‘CPR’ and will be a simple form of critical information on your business. The information contained herein on the 3 Form can serve to jump start your business, in case of a critical event.

We have written in the past on the importance of having a disaster or backup plan for every aspect of your business. The 3 Form would be a single page with the following information:

Company information to include your EIN and Date of Formation.

People information to include the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of the firm’s lawyer and accountant, and, perhaps, banker. These 3 advisors are the immediate caregivers that can help your business in the initial aftermath of a critical event.

Relevant business information such as current large contracts, anchor clients, employee or consultant backup, and/or beneficiaries is the final component.

Company, People, Relevant (CPR) Information. Keep it simple, this is your firm’s immediate emergency response in the event of a critical event, not your full backup plan. Your 3 Form should be limited to one page and should be readily accessible for immediate caregivers to locate. Consider giving it to your attorney, likeliest the safest place.

As we head back to the office after an extended holiday timeframe, our first priority is to create our own 3 Form. Consider taking a few minutes to compose yours as well.

Illuminate sends our light and love to Damar Hamlin, his family, the Buffalo Bills, and the community at large. Consider attending a CPR Class and make sure your own business has a clear path for that immediate critical event, should it one day cross your path.

Be well.
