Focus
When you wish to move your business forward, the best approach can be summarized in one word - focus. Such a simple word but with so much power.
There are many areas a business owner can focus on during any life stage of their company or organization. So, where best to start? It rather depends on what your focus really is at any given time. Therefore, choose an aspect of your firm that you feel can best change the trajectory you are on to the direction that places you squarely headed in the right direction or on the right path.
For example, the success of our IWON (Illuminate Women Owners Network) Program has led to our focus being shifted to that program as a means of growth for Illuminate. A Press Release is about to be issued, new branding items for IWON are being ordered, and conversations with COIs (Centers of Influence) have already begun. Sometimes, your business takes you to unexpected journeys. And many times, those can be positive and profitable.
There is that old saying of ‘one step at a time’. It can equally be applied to your organization. Wholesale change may sometimes be warranted, but likely, changing or shifting one focus at a time is a more methodical and productive manner to address the future of your company. Choose one item, one product, one service, one prospect initiative, and focus.
If you believe you should change something up with your strategy but are unclear where to start, ask your valued clients. They will be your best source of experience with your firm and can certainly provide constructive insight. Ask them what you and your company can offer or do in the future to keep them coming back. Be specific and encourage honest feedback.
Is there a product or service they would like to see you offer? What keeps them coming back right now? Service? Expertise? Turn around time? So many exciting outcomes can occur from an in-depth and positive conversation with top customers or clients. Make sure you include these at every stage of your business lifecycle.
In today’s world, we can easily become sidetracked with Pandemics, Wars, Human Rights Failures, not to mention Politics, turning your focus inward to your company may be a great way to positively influence your organization and keep your emotional health focused away from those things you cannot control. Focus is central to moving your business forward and keeping your eye on the proverbial ball, just like our dog in today’s Blog photo.
Be well.
