Finding the Light Within
It has been a tumultuous weekend in our city, and in particular, our office neighborhood. Lives taken, souls to heaven, a community and a city forever changed. So, how do we open our doors and go about our business today?
When tragedy invades your personal life, it certainly has profound effects upon your entire life, and that includes your business. It may be time to take stock and consider changes that can dim the darkness and the sadness that made its way into our landscape.
There are many ways to open our business doors and let even a ray of light back in. First, find a charity that is helping those directly impacted. This is when social media platforms like Facebook can be very helpful. Check out the pages of the elected officials if you don’t know where to look. They will usually provide information for the community. Find that organization helping those in need and make a donation. To donate in these times of need can be the single most selfless and supportive action you can take, both as an individual and a business.
Second, check in on your staff, your colleagues, your office neighbors. Our particular office building is but a few blocks from the mass shootong site. A trip there to lay a candle or some flowers may be in order. Connection can offer great peace. We may enter and leave this life alone but while we are here we are not alone. They were not alone. Now is a good time to remind yourself of this.
And, lastly, when you are ready, open the doors and engage in your business. Likely customers and clients and patients are depending upon you. It is time to shine a light on your pathway away from this dark event. The memories of those lost cannot be honored in the darkness. It is a new dawn, a new day, time to rise together. The light within will carry us to a better place.
The Oxford Dictionary provides this definition for the word Illuminate: make (something) visible or bright by shining light on it; light up. Let’s each one of us illuminate our office today with the warmth of light and love.
Be well.
