Be a ‘LEED’er of Your Pack
In the dog world there are leaders and there are followers. We see that in our own Making A Point pack. But in the human world, spell the word differently and you have a different type of front runner.
An internet search of ‘LEED’ turned up a very adequate AI definition on Google:
LEED certification, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification, is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement for buildings. It's a framework for designing and operating buildings that are healthy, efficient, and cost-saving.
To earn LEED certification, project teams must earn points by adhering to prerequisites and credits across nine measurements. The more points a building earns, the higher its certification level:
Certified: 40–49 points
Silver: 50–59 points
Gold: 60–79 points
Platinum: 80 points and above
LEED certification is available for many types of buildings, including new construction, interiors, existing buildings, homes, neighborhoods, and entire cities and communities.
LEED certification fees include:
Registration: A flat fee paid upfront at the time of registration
Certification: Based on the project's size and rating system, and calculated when the project team submits documentation for review
Some recommend preparing for a LEED credential for about 30 days, but the time frame can vary depending on the candidate.
We have been privileged to be an observer in a client’s efforts to work towards LEED Certification for their client. The process has been exciting and interesting to note that there are large companies which encourage their product distributors to earn this prestigious designation.
If you find yourself leading your own firm or an organization who wants to pursue this for their building, locate a licensed Architect who is certified to conduct the analysis. Your desire in stand out and ‘LEED’ the sustainable efforts in your industry will clearly be of interest to many!
Be well.
