Celebrating Milestones
Today marks my youngest dog’s fifth birthday. As I uploaded his Birthday Wishes to all of my personal social media platforms, It made me reflect upon how often or not so often businesses celebrate their milestones.
I enjoy seeing anniversaries of businesses celebrating on social media platforms. It is a true achievement when a small business adds another year to its life cycle. They should be celebrated on social media just like individual birthdays. But there are so many more ways to not only celebrate but to draw the attention to your firm’s milestone.
Over the years, one popular means of celebrating business anniversaries has been for that business to donate to a favorite charity. One particularly interesting method is to donate an additional $100 for each year. The Charity is appreciative and it draws attention to the giving organization’s increasing lifespan. It tells everyone your business continues to thrive and you are happy to mark the occasion by increasing your donation each year.
Another celebration method is to email and thank all your clients and offer them a small discount for any services or products purchased on your milestone day. Inevitably, this approach builds sales and loyalty. Clients and customers begin to look forward to it every year and plan larger purchases on that day. This approach has always been well received if it can be applied to both preserving your profit margin and/or the type of product you make or service you provide. Everyone loves to feel they have been offered a bargain or a special price.
While celebrating the lifespan of the business is most popular, you can also flood the airways with celebrations of employee’s birthdays as well as the start of your customer or client relationships.
If your system has the ability to track customer first purchase dates, this is a somewhat unique manner to differentiate this celebration. Not every company does this. It will help you stand out, make them feel special, and provide a smile for them. And we can never get enough of those these days!
Your HR system should allow you to identify employee birthdays and mark those with an office cake or maybe a day off on their birthday. That is always welcome by most employees!
So, whether it is a social media blitz, an email campaign, or cake, celebrate the anniversaries of your business. And consider adding to your list of celebrations by recognizing employee birthdays and the start dates of client/customer/patient relationships. When you celebrate such milestones, it adds warmth to your brand and solidifies how you value all of those involved.
