Finding Business Support Among Colleagues
Competitor or colleague? Or both?
It is said that dogs are pack animals. It has been our experience that is true in many cases but not all. Some dogs we have had are very social while others are far more independent and look to lead not follow. People are no different.
Finding support within your industry can provide much needed motivation and intel for making new choices. As we embark upon changing our delivery services through the written word with the launch of our book, we joined a publishing summit. The support, the enthusiasm, and encouragement among fellow authors, editors, and other publishing professionals was both unexpected and quite welcome.
Depending on your industry, you may find colleagues more competitors than supporters. You may need to look beyond to executive advisory groups or national or international industry organizations where the threat of competition would not be present. Having the experience of others with more years on the job can only be helpful.
We were privileged to happen upon the publishing summit and signed up last minute. It was truly transformative and informative. We learned things we did not even know we needed to know. And the timing was perfect with our book becoming available in the next week or so. We have also found a permanent source of support and advice in the form of a Facebook group and even identified a local attendee we will be meeting in person shortly.
We have often watched our younger dogs take cues from our older dogs. We now find ourselves emulating their behavior as we continue to enter a new industry all together. Another example of our worlds following one another. We just do not use leashes in our endeavors!
Let us learn from our dear dogs and their need to lead, follow, or get out of the way with contemporaries. Identify organizations that will help you establish more expertise in your chosen careers. Their support may not only be instrumental in your professional growth but essential to your business success.
Be well.
