Get in the Game

Whenever a toy driven dog sees you enjoying a moment of reflection and calm, there will be a ball or a frisbee or both presented to you. You do not need to respond but at least your companion is asking for you to get into the game.

In business, nothing is simpler than to just ask. Your firm, particularly if you are a sole proprietor or micro business needs to be heard. There is no better advocate than your voice. Use it. While there are many marketing and brand opportunities to market your business, using your voice to be heard, can be just as powerful, if not more, depending on the situation. Just ask, a simple two (2) words that can change your business for the good.

I wrote about how this Business Blog was recently included in a resource list for the organization that provides support to Architects in the states. That opened up my Blog to over 14,000 new small firms, with employees less tha, five (5), including the owners. And I was not approached by the creators of the Resource List, I heard about it and asked to be included. Just ask and I did and it worked!

This experience is particularly interesting as all but one of the creators was personally known to me. Two (2) out of the three (3) presenters included members of Illuminate’s IWON EPAG group. And, a third, has an office down the hallway from us and is a large breed dog owner. As they all focused on professional resources, I asked if the Making A Point Blog could be included as well. And the response was as if a light bulb went off and they all agreed it was a great resource to include for the business aspect of running their professional firms. The Blog description they crafted referred to this Blog as “helpful and humorous.” I really appreciated that uplifting description and may be using it in the future!

Like my dog, just ask and keep on asking until you find the right response. Whether it is for new business, an introduction, inclusion in an appropriate professional list, or just feedback you are seeking, you need to ask to get in the game. You are your first and foremost advocate. If you are not heard, people may not seek you or your firm’s involvement. This is not because they are intentionally leaving you out, but because they did not realize how including you would be such a great benefit until you asked and reminded them!

Just ask, otherwise, you may not get in the game!

Be well.
