Getting a Jump on the Holidays
It’s the start of the Thanksgiving Day Week around the United States. That usually means the start of the frenzy for the Holidays. But, before we jump right to gift giving and Santa, this is a great week to assess the culture of thankfulness at your company.
It’s been a long nearly two (2) years of adjusting to the new “Pandemic” normal. We are barraged with now common words or terms like Positivity Rate, Spikes, Mandates, Masks, Hospitals at near capacity, Out of Stock, Shortages, the list could go on but I will stop there. I would like to add the words Thank You to this list. I have written before on the importance of saying Thank You to your clients, customers, patients, donors, vendors, and, of course, your employees. And it seems now, at the start of the Thanksgiving Week, is an ideal time to return to them. What do they mean to you? And who should you be Thanking?
Let’s start with your culture of thankfulness at your organization. Do you make it a routine to thank or reward or acknowledge employees of the month? Do you send Thank You notes, handwritten, to clients, donors, customers that brought new business to you or made a referral? If you prefer to be more digital, there are many greeting card websites, free and for a fee, where you can write out one card and send to multiple recipients. I happen to use one called Jackie Lawson. I just love their sentiments. But, there are many free sites as well. I would just caution that many of those have Ads attached, perhaps not the best ones to send for a professional sentiment. If you enjoy humor and making people laugh, know your audience, and check out JibJab, they really can make you more than just giggle!
If sending greeting cards, digital or old fashioned mail, is not a fit for your organization or you, keep it simple, just say it. There are so many confusing, negative, and, at times, dangerous comments in these struggling time, that to just say Thank You, whenever you can, can change the discourse of our communities. Thank the Mail Person, your Landlord, the Maintenance Folks at your office, your neighbor who wishes you a Happy Holiday, your client that makes an unexpected referral, the server who brings over extra napkins and keeps your water glass filled. There are so many opportunities to just say it. If someone says Have a Good Night as you leave the office, just say it, Thank you. If we all tried this, even just for the start of the upcoming Holidays, the positive message would likely brighten a few people’s lives.
As your company heads into the Holidays, remember to just say Thank You. It may not change the world but it may change someone’s world that day! Be like our dogs in the Blog Photo, Get on a Jump on the Holidays. Thank anyone and everyone whenever you are presented with the chance.
Happy Thanksgiving and Thank You for reading my Blog!
