Unicorns, Fairies, and Mermaids, Oh My!
This week’s blog is taking a break from our normal commentary and taking our reader to the Mythicsl and the Magical. But, have no fear, there is a small business and animal story in it as usual!
When I took an early retirement from my career corporate job, I also walked away from over two (2) decades of volunteer, high profile board work. I also left the prestigious business club in town I had belonged to just shy of nearly two (3) decades as well. It was time to rethink and rebrand.
Part of that included joining the oldest women’s club in the country founded by women, run by women for women, right here in Buffalo. And within eight (8) months of being a Member, I was asked to Co-Chair the Literary Committee. This led me to today’s blog subject.
As Co-Chair of the Literary Committee, finding authors to speak at four (4) lunch programs during the club’s fiscal year is my challenge.. But as connections would have it, I secured our first speaker this past weekend, Dr. Timm Otterson, DVM, author of All Creatures Weird and Dangerous.
Dr. Otterson is a Feline Veterinarian here in Buffalo and the President of the Pet Emergency Fund. And now, he is a favorite Author! His book enlightened me, inspired me, and educated me. His blend of fact and fiction, or did it all really happen, left me intellectually awakened.
This Blog, Making a Point, was named after my Pointing Barbet, The Marquis de Lafayette, a French Water Dog. So, the opportunity to mix club board work with animals and mythical creatures was a draw I could not resist. You can find this slice of fact and fantasy at one of the businesses owned by our own IWON (Illuminate Women Owners Network) Members, Daisy’s Doghouse on Hertel Avenue.
Point yourself in the right direction, head to Daisy’s Doghouse on Hertel Avenue in North Buffalo. Join the magical world of learning about and caring for mythical creatures, while simultaneously patronizing a small business, and helping market a local professional’s amazing book!
We were told the Author is donating his proceeds to the Pet Emergency Fund so he can help out the next Unicorn client in need😁.
Enjoy the Book, it really is a must read!
Be well.
