Inspiration
Every new year, we, as business owners, should evaluate where our business is and where we would like it to go. It should not just be about finances though, it should be about how we wish our firm to look to us and others and, at the core, what motivates or inspires us to shape our company into that look.
Recently, a member of our Women’s Network suggested we each discuss what woman inspired us initially in our career and life quest. The results were both surprising and educational for the group. We will share some of the idols on our Illuminate Facebook Page in the coming weeks. For some, it was easy to choose, and for others, like me, I had to spend some time revisiting my actions and interests as a younger self. My result was both obvious and yet unexpected. The process to that end result was filled with retrospective contemplation and inspiration.
Rather than just write down financial or operational goals for the year, consider our exercise for yourself. Who inspired you to be where you are, why, and how do you honor that person now? Perhaps your choice has changed over the years along with you and your business goals. An exercise comparing those idols over your life cycle may bring both homage and excitement. Likely, there will be a fresh surge of motivation.
If your source of inspiration is a mentor or a colleague or a teacher still in your life, let them know their profound impact on you. Perhaps, it will bring contentment, a sense of success, and inspiration to them to
mentor another. We find sources of inspiration in many places, do not be afraid to look in nontraditional places. Friends, families, colleagues, celebrities, song writers, they all offer much in many ways.
Start your week out with the playing of your favorite song or keep a printout of your source of inspiration, a glance at that might just ignite a new spark. A fresh perspective on what we do may just yield the pathway to achieving what is better and what is rewarding.
Be well.
