“My Kingdom for a Horse”
“A horse, a horse, my kingdom for a horse” is a quote from William Shakespeare’s Richard III play. It is often used in modern times to stress how important and needed something is, by someone. Every business owner or leader should know what their horse is that their business needs.
Many pieces comprise the unique puzzle that is a business. Personnel, Product, Process, Purchaser. However, there is usually one piece among those four (4) P’s that fuels any individual business.
We used to have a local business that flooded the air waves with commercials featuring the owner. He was clearly large and in charge. His voice boomed, his tall physique spanned the picture frame, and his confident swagger could fill a room. Clearly, the business was positioned as being the owner.
I knew friends and colleagues during those times that specifically shopped at this business because of the commercials and wanting to meet the owner. If your firm has a larger than life personality in ownership or leadership, it may behoove you to harness its power. Star power is real, if you have it, use it!
A unique product or process may also speak for itself. If that defines your business, meet with a marketing and advertising professional and showcase it. You may be surprised how creative talent can bring out the beauty of your business.
And never overlook your end Purchaser. Often, buyers become spokespersons. Sometimes, it is just through their word of mouth and their referrals that can make an impact on your sales. Other times, the person themself may have the star power needed to promote your organization. Look at your client list, find the local celebrity or community influencer among them. Or create one. Your creativity can be limitless here.
Be like Cisco on his horse, Elvis, create a unique impression for your business. And trade or create what you need, to be worthy of your kingdom!
Be well.
